Overweight Pets
Nearly 45% of all pets are overweight. This increases their
chances of health problems just as it does for their human owners.
Overweight pets are prone to diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and high
blood pressure. They also have a lifespan that is shorter than a
healthy, lean animal. It's actually not that hard to get your pet
to lose weight. After all, they can't go raid the fridge when they
start craving! Just don't thrown things they like in the trash if
they might dig it out. Most indoor pets do not get enough exercise.
Start taking your dog for a walk twice a day (this is also good for
you!) and play with your cat for about 15 minutes.
Metabolism normally slows down when a pet is overweight. So,
you can reduce the portion size or switch to a food with less calories
per serving. Refrain from feeding them high-calorie treats.
Measure what you feed them. Do not give them food as a reward and do
not feed them at the table. Put them in another room if you must.
Not only will this help them lose weight, but they won't be bothering
anyone while they are trying to eat. Keeping your pet healthy will
improve their chances of having a long life with you. |
