Enzymes are proteins that create chemical reactions which keep your
body functioning. All plants and animals contain enzymes.
Enzymes have different jobs to do in the body. Enzymes found in
saliva break down starch. Stomach enzymes break down protein.
Intestinal enzymes break down starches, fats, proteins and carbohydrates
thus allowing the nutrients to be absorbed into your bloodstream.
Other enzymes help control biochemical reactions in the body and aid
in breathing, detoxifying your organs, cleaning your blood, moving your
muscles, cellular repair and producing hormones.
By eating raw foods, you can restock your body's supply of enzymes.
Enzymes can be ruined if they are heated to more than 110º
F. That is why processed, cooked or pasteurized foods contain no
enzymes.
If you do not eat raw foods, your body will have to use extra energy
to produce the enzymes to break down your food thus straining your
digestive system. By eating raw foods, your body has an easy time
and just uses the enzymes you have given it.
Enzyme supplements will increase
your enzyme levels, but raw foods are the best source. |
