Diet and Nutrition
|
“D IET”
VS.
“NUTRITION”
People use the terms “diet” and “nutrition”
interchangeably. This is incorrect, or at least, incomplete.
Diet is only one component of nutrition, it is what you eat,
including supplements and beverages. Nutrition is that which you
are actually able to utilize from your diet. It is possible to
eat all the right foods and avoid all the bad ones, and still be
undernourished.
Nutrition is more than just what you eat.
Nutrition is considered by many to be the single most important
component of preventive health care. Diet has been associated
with the cause and treatment of cancer, heart disease, diabetes,
stroke, hypertension, arteriosclerosis, etc. Former Surgeon
General C. Everett Koop estimated that of 2.1 million annual
U.S. deaths, 1.6 million, or about 75%, are related to
inadequate nutrition. ~Dr.

Do you consume 5-9 servings of fruits and
vegetables every day?
Americans get less than 10% of that amount, and half of us don't
eat any
vegetables at all! Studies show a 55%
decrease in cancers and heart attacks, when we eat enough fruits
and vegetables because they contain important vitamins and
nutrients. They also contain phytochemicals, which work as
antioxidants to help make cells healthier. Did you know that you
can get all your fruit and vegetable nutrients in a capsule?
Fruit & Veggie Capsules
contains over 20 fruits & veggies, encapsulated by a process
that uses no heat, literally making thousands of nutrients
available to your body. |
Are you healthy?
If someone viewed your daily actions,
would they see that you’re a healthy person? Do you eat
nutritious meals, breathe correctly, get enough sleep? Think
about your life: Do you make time to maintain good health? If
you do, you’re on the right track! If you don’t, start NOW to
build your foundation of good health.

POWER FOODS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY
These foods are great for pregnant and lactating
women, as well as their families. When it's important to make
every bite count, depend on these nutritional powerhouses:
Yogurt, Dark Leafy Greens, Eggs, Fatty Fish, Lamb, Berries,
Sweet Potatoes, Avocado, Legumes & Nuts. Also use the following
for powerful nutrition:
• BLACKSTRAP
MOLASSES contains high amounts of calcium and iron, plus
magnesium, potassium, copper, and chromium.
• BEANS & LEGUMES are rich in protein, fiber,
calcium, iron, and niacin.
• GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES like kale, collard
greens, and watercress, supply vitamins A and C, calcium, iron
and much more. They are also rich in phytochemicals like beta
carotene and lutein, which can protect against cancer.
• THE CABBAGE FAMILY including broccoli and
brussels sprouts, is an exceptional source of vitamin A, vitamin
C, calcium, and phytochemicals. They also provide important
nutrients that promote a plentiful milk supply for your baby.
• NUTS & SEEDS provide fiber, protein, minerals,
and essential fatty acids. Flaxseeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds,
and walnuts are good omega-3 sources. |
CHIA SEEDS ARE…

Easily digestible:
The shells are easily broken down, even if swallowed whole,
unlike flax seed, which must be ground to be digested properly.
Slimming:
They are so filling that you’ll eat less of other foods. Also,
they actually bulk up and cleanse your body of old "junk" in
your intestines.
Water loving:
They soak up ten times their weight in water. They help you stay
hydrated longer and retain electrolytes in your fluids.
|
Nutritious:
They provide protein and calcium, and are rich in boron which helps the body assimilate and use calcium. They also support proper brain functioning.
Endurance enhancing:
Known as the "Indian Running Food," the ancient Aztec warriors used chia seed during their conquests. They enhance energy, stamina and endurance!
Regenerating:
The nutrients travel to the cells very quickly due to the ease in digestion and assimilation. They help build and regenerate healthy body tissue.
Mild flavored:
The mild taste makes it easy to put in sauces, smoothies, breads, puddings, etc. They don’t change the taste much, but will greatly add nutrition! |

F OCUS
ON FOLATE
Seventy percent of serious neural tube defects
can be prevented by taking folic acid. Defects, such as
spinabifida, are formed during the first four weeks of
pregnancy; the defects are formed even before you know you are
pregnant! That is why you should be taking folic acid before you
get pregnant. When mothers take care of their own health even
before they conceive, it is more likely that the baby will be
born healthy. Consume foods that are rich in folic acid like
liver, yeast, leafy vegetables, spinach, broccoli, lettuce,
sprouts, legumes, lentils, black beans, peanuts, avocados,
asparagus, broccoli, and romaine lettuce. |
Making
a Real Difference… With Real Nutrition!
“During the first trimester of my third
pregnancy, I felt so exhausted and ill. It was difficult to find
any foods that sounded or smelled good, and that would sit well
and stay in my stomach. I could feel my body’s lack of
nutrition. I had no energy, and could not keep up with my two
little active boys. Then I discovered Seven Essentials!
It was the only thing that made my body feel truly nourished. I
feel great now! I know it helped me survive my first trimester,
and kept my body going and healthy. It was reassuring to know
that my body was getting the nutrition it required to provide
for my developing baby’s needs. I am so thankful that I found
Seven Essentials!” ~Tiffany,

ANOTHER BENEFIT OF
SEVEN ESSENTIALS
Abundance of Nutrition
We eat processed and cooked foods that are
stripped of their most beneficial nutrients. It is nutrient
deficiencies that create poor health. One solution is to eat
more raw nutrients, providing useable building blocks for our
cells to stay healthy. Seven
Essentials contains many types of food in a highly
concentrated, nutrient dense, assimilable raw food format. Our
cells love it and the result is health! The main component of
Seven Essentials is RiSoTriene®, a unique, soluble,
stabilized rice bran that by itself contains hundreds of natural
nutrients. RiSoTriene® has not been cooked. It is
virtually instantly assimilated and so its nutrients feed our
body’s cells quickly. Along with RiSoTriene®, Seven
Essentials contains six other types of raw, nutrient dense
foods that provide our cells with thousands of micro-nutrients
in a “cell ready” food that the body can readily accept and
utilize. Consequently, Seven Essentials provides the body
with an abundance of nutrition that positively impacts your
health. |
A very important way you can be sure that
you are taking good care of yourself and your baby is to eat
healthy foods! |

I T’S
JUST
A NUMBER!
"Everybody is obsessed about the number," says Brook Dabbs, fitness coordinator at Southern Methodist University. "Some weigh themselves multiple times a day – more women than men. It's ridiculous to weigh that often because the number will change that often -- It's just water."
"There are different theories," says Joanna Zaremba, wellness director for the Dallas YMCA, as well as a certified personal trainer and yoga instructor. "Numbers make people uncomfortable and create setbacks because they're not seeing what they want to see on the scale. It's a mental game. I encourage [people] to think of other aspects of life; how
being fit is better for their overall health
and well-being.
I help them see the bigger picture."
What does this weight number say about
you? Is it as
important as the books you read, or who you love, or what makes you cry, or the people who make you laugh? Not anywhere close. Yet we let it be important, at least in our mind.
So, we can drive ourselves off the cliff with this numbers thing, or we can focus on indications other than a scale. Don’t worry as much about your body fat dropping, as how you feel about yourself. How do you look? Do your clothes fit? If you're happy with your body, don't worry so much about the scale. |

Want To Lose Fat? If we CONSUME
more fat than we BURN…
We will always be fat! So do the opposite by
consuming LESS fat than you burn:
*Establish healthy eating habits.
*Never skip breakfast – start the day with
Seven Essentials.
*Eat smaller meals more often during the day.
*Avoid breads, pasta, sugar, soda and alcohol.
*Drink clean, healthy, refreshing water.
*Find a friend to set goals and exercise with.
*Exercise – start with just 15 minutes a day.
*Exercise with a partner for motivation.
DID YOU KNOW…?
Underweight
women run a greater risk of having a baby with low birth weight.
Overweight women have increased odds of developing diabetes and
high blood pressure during their pregnancy. Attempt weight loss
BEFORE pregnancy… NEVER during! |
Nuts and Seeds are packed full
with good nutrition. They can be eaten toasted or raw. Small
seeds, such as sesame and flax seeds, must be ground in
order for the nutrients to be utilized. Nut and seed
butters are delicious on toast or crackers. They can also be
used in a dip or sauce.

One way to ensure you get your daily amount of
Fruits and Vegetables is to eat a colorful diet. Experts
agree that the natural colors in foods, called phytochemicals,
impart many health benefits. Have at least three natural colors
on your plate at each meal. For added antioxidants, experiment
with new colors. Look for purple cauliflower, red or yellow
carrots, purple potatoes, pink radishes, red cabbage, purple
beans and more. |

A healthy body requires calcium, yet studies show that we do not
get the recommended amount of this important mineral. Calcium
helps build and maintain strong bones, teeth and muscles.
Getting an adequate amount of calcium throughout life may reduce
the risk of Osteoporosis. How much calcium do you need for
optimum health? Children need 800mg, adolescents need 1300mg,
adults need 1000mg and seniors need 1200mg of calcium. How much
calcium are YOU getting? Did you know that
Seven Essentials and
Kona Deep Sea Minerals both provide
healthy amounts of calcium? |

TO
LIVE
A HAPPY
LIFE!
In a study done at the University of Michigan,
researchers asked a group of 90 students to watch one of three
video genres: horror to induce anxiety, comedy to induce joy and
laughter or "neutral" to have no effect on emotions. The
findings showed that students who watched the comedy had much
higher positive emotions, while those who viewed the horror
movie had far more negative emotions. It was concluded that
negative emotions create a "tunnel vision" view of the world,
whereas positive emotions promote big-picture thinking and allow
one to become more inclusive. |

Studies prove that women who
EXERCISE
during pregnancy have an
easier labor, delivery and
postpartum recovery. In the past,
EXERCISING
during pregnancy was
considered
dangerous. However, researchers now strongly recommend that women
EXERCISE
to help prevent the same
problems they once thought it
would cause. Women who are
PHYSICALLY ACTIVE
during the first
twenty weeks of pregnancy have a markedly reduced risk of
pre-eclampsia (pregnancy-induced hypertension) according to a study
reported in OB GYN News. The study concluded that women who
EXERCISE
during the first twenty
weeks have a 34% lower risk of
pre-eclampsia compared with inactive women. Those who engage in
VIGOROUS ACTIVITY
during pregnancy have a
54% lower risk. |

“T YPE
A” PEOPLE…
ARE
THEY
HAPPY?
If you have a "Type A" personality, exhibiting traits
such as irritability, hostility and impatience, you may be less
satisfied with your life.
Researchers asked people 40 hypothetical situations like
being stuck in traffic or having their hair cut too short. People who
had more Type A traits responded more negatively. They also reported
feeling that they had a lower quality of life than others.
Participants who responded to the scenarios with anger,
cynicism and hostility saw their quality of life as far below that of
their peers.
The study does not prove that having a Type A
personality causes a lower quality of life, but rather that it is a
perception. It is possible to change a Type A personality by using
behavior modification and health management techniques. Such a change
can potentially improve a person’s quality of life.

DID
YOU KNOW…? Omega-3 fatty
acids help develop a baby’s nervous system, neurological function,
and retinas. Pregnant women with an omega-3 deficiency have an even
greater risk of developing pre-eclampsia, pre-term labor and postpartum
depression. They also have an increased risk of having a low birth
weight baby. In addition to fish, there are many other great omega-3
sources, such as leafy greens, berries, legumes, peas, flax seeds,
walnuts, pecans, tofu, wheat germ and oat germ. |

Pregnant women with chronic periodontal-gum disease
are seven times more likely to give birth prematurely?
The
best advice is to try to prevent periodontal disease from developing. Pregnant women are encouraged to see a dentist for their regular check up and cleaning more frequently than other people. Hormonal changes during pregnancy cause an exaggerated response to plaque build up and pregnant women are more likely to get gum disease such as gingivitis. Most Gingival disease during pregnancy can be prevented by the removal of plaque and tarter with meticulous oral hygiene including brushing and flossing after meals.
